Camp Themes: A Weekly Breakdown

Themes provide focus and direction to each week of camp. The sessions include, but are not limited to swimming, gymnastics, soccer, field hockey, basketball, t-ball and a weekly field trip to places like Busy Barns Adventure Farm, Pump It Up, the Arboretum, Madison Children’s Museum and more! Every activity is tailored to the child’s age and skill level.

Session 1: Star Wars

June 12 – June 16
In a galaxy not far from your backyard campers will begin their Padawan training from our Master Yoda.   As a team you will complete missions at SwimWest and Badger Gymnastics as you learn the code that guides all Jedi through the Galaxy.  We will blast off to UW Space Place where we will star gaze and pick up tips to help guide your Pod Racer safely through the caverns and flats of the planet of Tatooine.  Learn the techniques to challenge your skills in our many Jedi training games. Test your Padawan skills at Laser Tag (8 – 13 year old) and Pump it up (5 – 7 year olds).   May the Force be with you!

Session 2: Treasure Hunters

June 19 – June 23
There is treasure at Swim&Gym and it is up to you to find it! Will you discover it as you walk the plank at Badger Gymnastics and fall into the foam pit or as you sail the high seas and dodge cannon balls at SwimWest? Defend your captain as you prepare to set sail for a fossil and rock excursion at the Geology Museum. Pack your secret treasure map and get ready to spend the day at the UW Arboretum searching for buried loot with your mateys.

Session 3: On Wisconsin

June 26 – June 30
Show your Wisconsin pride as we welcome Bucky Badger and the UW Cheerleaders to kick off “On Wisconsin” week! We will spend our week learning how to be a UW Badger with team work, field games, and camp spirit. Take a field trip to Camp Randall and Jump Around on a behind the scenes tour! A trip to a local dairy farm will give campers knowledge and pride about Wisconsin! On Wisconsin, On Wisconsin! Stand up, Badgers, Sing!

Session 4: Party in the USA

July 3 – July 7   *closed Tuesday July 4th – this week has been prorated
Get ready to have some fun as we celebrate America’s favorite pastimes. Join us for ultimate dodgeball, softball games, a trip to the Children’s Museum (5-7 year olds) and Boulders Climbing Gym (8-13 year olds). Splish Splash as you play on the water slide and take a dip in the SwimWest pool. We’ll also play a game of “Stars and Strikes” at Middleton Sports Bowl.

Session 5: Superheroes

July 10 – July 14
A special visit from the campus police starts off our week. Fly like Superman into the foam pit, climb like Spiderman on the ropes at Badger Gymnastics and run like Dash on the field! No matter where you are, there is a superhero in all of us- put your superpowers to the test at McKee Farms Park! On Dress-Up Day come dressed as your favorite Superhero and discover what your super powers are while we learn to be “The Incredibles” with Martial Arts! Campers will have the opportunity to meet local heroes at the Fire Department.

Session 6: Animal Adventures

July 17 – July 21
Crikey Mate, it’s a jungle out there! Climb like monkeys, run like cheetahs, and jump like a kangaroo at Badger Gymnastics. ZooZort will start off our week with an interactive animal show. We will then head to the farm to learn about the animals and take a hay ride!  Come splash in the SwimWest watering hole! Watch out! Lions, tigers, and bears, Oh my! Go on a safari at the Henry Vilas Zoo with a look at the animals and their environments.

Session 7: Secret Agents

July 24 – July 28
Operation “Beat the Heat” begins with an interactive show from the Power Rangers! Learn martial arts and see if you have what it takes to be a secret agent. Action and adventure awaits us at Badger Gymnastics with a mock laser beam maze. You will test your strength, agility, and smarts to see if you have the finesse it takes to be a spy. Campers ages 5-7 will test their spy stealth at bowling while 8-13 year old campers will attempt a covert mission at Ultrazone. Decode a secret message to earn your Special Agent Badges in our under cover operation to Devil’s Lake State Park.

Session 8: Harry Potter

July 31 – August 4
Charms and spells will start your week with a Magic Show from the Swim&Gym wizards! Celebrate Harry Potter’s Birthday with the creation of your own wizard wand. Journey into the magical land of Hogwarts where we will play a fun game of Quidditch (combination of dodge ball, capture the flag, and basketball), and a game of Dueling. Take flight on the air track at Badger and create magical potions. All wizards will take a trip to the enchanting Dream Castle Park in Monona for a tri-wizards tournament. A special Harry Potter letter is sent to each child pre-registered for camp.

Session 9: Blast from the Past

August 7 – August 11
Take a trip through time this week as we explore the past! Anything is possible from Dinosaurs to Explorers to Getting your Groove on to a Blast from the Past 80s Dance Party! Have your campers bring something special to add to the Swim&Gym Time Capsule that will be buried in the camp ground. Adventure awaits underground as we explore Cave of the Mounds. Then, go back in time as we discover the rock outcroppings and wetlands of Donald Park in Mt Horeb and search for the natural springs.

Session 10: Fun in the Sun

August 14 – August 18
Summer fun, we’ll be having a BLAST! Campers will spend a full week enjoying an awesome array of wacky water activities including an inflatable water slide, water balloon toss, swimming, and splashing water games. Our summer beach party takes place at Devil’s Lake State Park, campers come ready for fun! This week will guarantee to leave you cool, wet and enjoying all that summer has to offer.

Session 11: Swim&Gym’s Got Talent!

August 21 – August 25
Join us for a talent filled week of fun! Take a behind the scenes trip to the Overture Center and learn what it takes to put on an amazing performance! Together with your team mates walk the red carpet as a VIP before presenting your talent! On Friday, enjoy talents from other campers as well as an end of summer slide show.
